Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or vehicle collection. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, charges, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the latter will take precedence.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Cornwall, you must be at least 21 years old. Age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, and extra charges may apply for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of your current address. You will also need to present valid payment details and a security deposit, as well as fulfill any other requirements stated in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Options
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Cornwall office. To confirm your booking, a deposit may be necessary. The remaining balance and a security deposit are usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are quoted in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept all major credit and debit cards, with transactions processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, a comprehensive inspection is required to identify any pre-existing damage, which must be reported without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed at this stage. Please return the vehicle in the same condition in which it was collected, taking into account reasonable wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as when it was picked up; failure to do so will result in refueling charges. Returns made after the agreed time may incur extra fees, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You will be liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, in addition to an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Coverage
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. You can find full coverage information and excess amounts detailed in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to limit your financial liability, so reviewing these is wise. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless you opt for additional coverage. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Late cancellations or failure to appear may incur charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities or purposes. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or engaging in other risky behaviors. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as exceeding passenger or weight limits, is strictly forbidden. Additionally, driving outside the specified geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Limitations on Liability
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Cornwall will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits or data, that may arise from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount you paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or for fraudulent actions.
Cornwall Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
Terms Updates
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
